Record Shortcuts

Pick recording triggers that match your real workflow and avoid conflicts with other macOS tools.

Settings -> Record Shortcuts

Hotkey 1 (Primary Trigger)

This is the shortcut you will use most.

Available trigger types:

  • Right Option
  • Left Option
  • Left Control
  • Right Control
  • Fn
  • Right Command
  • Right Shift
  • Custom
  • None

Behavior is built-in:

  • quick tap: toggle recording on/off
  • press-and-hold: push-to-talk

Hotkey 2 (Optional Backup Trigger)

Optional second trigger with the same options.

  • appears after clicking Add Another Hotkey
  • can be removed at any time

Use a second hotkey if you switch keyboards often or need different ergonomics in different contexts.

Custom Shortcut Recorder

When a hotkey is set to Custom, Voiscribd shows a recorder field for a key combination.

Use this for workflows where modifier-only triggers conflict with other apps.

Low-friction daily dictation

  • Right Command or Right Option
  • tap to start/stop

Precise push-to-talk

  • hold-based usage with Right Option or Fn
  • release to stop speaking

Heavy shortcut ecosystem

  • Custom combo that does not overlap with launcher/window-manager tools

If a Shortcut Does Not Trigger

Check in this order:

  1. Settings -> System Permissions -> Keyboard Shortcuts
  2. conflict with other global shortcut apps
  3. keyboard layout-specific key behavior
  4. test with a temporary custom combo
