Capture & Input

Microphone Input

Keep input stable by choosing the right mic selection strategy for fixed desks, mobile setups, and multi-device switching.

Settings -> Microphone Input (Expert Mode)

This page controls how Voiscribd decides which microphone to capture from.

Input Modes

Voiscribd supports three microphone selection modes:

  • System Default: always follows macOS default input
  • Custom Device: locks to one selected microphone
  • Prioritized: tries devices in your ordered list, then falls back

Custom Device Mode

When Custom Device is active:

  • choose one device from the device list
  • use Refresh after plugging/unplugging hardware

Use this for stable desk setups with one preferred mic.

Prioritized Mode

When Prioritized is active:

  • build an ordered fallback list
  • move devices up/down to control preference
  • unavailable devices stay listed and are skipped automatically

This is useful for users switching between desk mic, headset, and laptop mic.

Practical Recommendation

  • stable desk setup: use Custom Device
  • mobile/multi-dock setup: use Prioritized
  • zero-maintenance setup: use System Default

Common Reliability Problems

Wrong mic after docking/undocking

Use Prioritized with explicit fallback order instead of System Default.

Mic disappears after reconnect

Hit Refresh and verify it remains in your priority list.

Capture is inconsistent between apps

Confirm macOS input defaults and Voiscribd mode are not fighting each other.

Note

[Screencast Placeholder] Show a real fallback scenario: disconnect primary mic and confirm Voiscribd automatically moves to the next prioritized device.
